Two fortresses supervise the road leading to the Vigolana Plateau: one is Forte Fornas, lying at 755 m a.s.l. at the feet of Vigolana Massif, and the other is Forte Brusafer, lying at 728 m a.s.l. at the feet of Marzola.
These two forts were part of a defensive system that was built in order to protect the city of Trento.
As the Austrian thought, every single fort had to be able to survive alone for days, if necessary, therefore, they both were equipped not only with ammunitions, but also with electric generators, kitchens, rooms, latrine and so on as it is still visible in Fort Belvedere in Lavarone.
