Reconstruction of the Vaia Dragon
The work by Martalar watches over as the wounded mountain heals. When the storm arrives, all you can do is wait for it to pass. Then, afterward, you have your chance to react. Marco Martalar, an internationally renowned artist specializing in woodwork, responded by creating an unforgettable piece of art: the Vaia Dragon.
What Vaia destroyed in 2018, Marco brought back to life through his art. This demonstrates that when talent, wisdom, and empathy come together, Nature can be reborn from the ashes with beauty and dignity. Now, that Dragon, a symbol of rebirth and hope, is no longer with us; it was destroyed by human hands, burned and reduced to ashes, leaving only wounds. However, the community chose to respond again, and we are delighted to present the new Vaia Dragon Regeneration.

Vaia Dragon Regeneration
Forged from the ashes of the original Vaia Dragon, the new dragon has returned to Lavarone! Weighing 6 tons of carbonized wood, measuring 16 meters in length and 7 meters in height, it is the largest wooden dragon sculpture in the world. Made from the roots of the Vaia storm, it carries the memory of what happened to its predecessor. The wooden pieces are entirely carbonized, deliberately burned by the artist Martalar, and combined with the remnants of the fire to form the new artwork.
The Vaia Dragon Regeneration piece: skillfully created by artist Marco Martalar using over 3,000 pieces of tree roots torn from the storm and more than 3,000 screws. This artwork has a less docile character than the previous Dragon because it tells a different story. This new Dragon is not only a guardian reminding us of the relationship between humans and nature but also a keeper of memory and stories, a symbol of rebirth and resilience where we humans should always remain humble before Mother Nature.

Most Beautiful Wooden Sculptures by Martalar in Trentino

ANIMA: String Quartet

The Avez del Prinzep, known as the largest silver fir in Europe, was a symbol of Lavarone. Standing 54 meters tall with a circumference of 5.6 meters, this monumental tree was a beloved destination for hikers and nature enthusiasts. Unfortunately, the Avez fell in 2017 due to a combination of old age, decay, and an internal ant nest. Its majesty and history continue to live through various enhancement and remembrance projects.
ANIMA is the main project representing it. From the wood of the fallen tree, four string instruments were created, now forming a quartet that gives new life to this important fir for the community, resonating its voice through concerts and performances. You can also find the story of this project at the Muse – Museum of Science in Trento.

La Frau – The New Work by Marco Martalar – Mother Nature

La Frau is a new work by Marco Martalar representing Mother Nature and is integrated into the thematic path of the Dragon Trail on Alpe Cimbra. This sculpture, made from natural materials, is a tribute to the beauty and strength of nature, inviting visitors to reflect on their relationship with the environment.
La Frau, created by Marco Martalar, what is it? La Frau is an important work that can also be viewed from the inside to understand its complexity. The symbol represents nature reclaiming the human-made artifact, granting it a part facing the sky as a sign of hope and the ability to coexist between humans and the environment. La Frau, born from the dream of Vaia, is at the start of our Dragon Trail, which leads us in stages to greater awareness of our impact on the environment.
