26.01.2018 - After two intense days, the American ski champion had the opportunity to test materials for the next Olympic Games in Pyeongchang. With many supporters and fans watching from the bottom of the slope, the great ski racer trained together with Ted Ligety and Tommy Ford. Thanks to the hard work of the technicians of the Ski Team Altipiani and of the ski town company Folgaria Ski, the Salizzona slope turned out to be in perfect conditions.
After her training, Lindsey Vonn participated in the press conference organized at Muu Village in Folgaria and led by the President of the Tourist Board Alpe Cimbra, Michael Rech.
"Our aim was that Lindsey could find a track in optimal conditions and we succeeded. The national star-stripe champion stated she was satisfied with our work”.
She explained: "I did some optimal training sessions. Recently I had some problems on frozen bottoms and here in Folgaria I could work well on this aspect. I tried to find the right combination between boots and skis: the track was perfect and I felt good sensations".
This was possible thanks to the whole destination and above all to the technicians of the Ski Team Altipiani and of the ski tow company Folgaria Ski.
“It was an incredible opportunity for us, the greatest professional and human satisfaction I have felt since I took on this role". These were the words of Michael Rech, president of the Tourist board Alpe Cimbra, at the beginning of the press conference.
Lindsey had already been in Trentino before: in 1999 the American champion won the first major victory of her career here. «In that year I won the special slalom at the Topolino Trophy (which has been held in Folgaria for 7 years, since 2017 with the new name AlpeCimbra Fis Children Cup). I remember my father told me that all the great champions of skiing, before establishing themselves in the World Cup, had won the Topolino Trophy. I must say that, even in my case, he was right. That day I was very nervous, at the edge of the track, cheering for me, there were both my grandfather and my father. It was the first important victory of my career".
In the following years, many other victories have arrived, four absolute World Cups, sixteen specialty victories, two world titles and one Olympic, won in Vancouver in 2010.
"During my long career I won a lot - said Lindsey - but I still have two great goals I would like to achieve before stopping with the competitive activity: winning one more Olympic medal, possibly the golden one but no matter the color, and beat the record of World Cup victories of Ingemar Stenmark”.
After the press conference Lindsey left the Alpe Cimbra, but she might return for the 2018 edition of the AlpeCimbra Fis Children Cup. The president Michael Rech invited her to take part in the event next March, where the best young ski proms from over 40 nations will be protagonists.
"My desire is to be there - replied Lindsey – compatibly with the schedule of my commitments, I'll be there".
