Among the most significant initiatives related to the Avez del Prinzep, the ANIMA project represents an emotional story of regeneration. Born from the wood of the majestic monumental tree from the Lavarone woods, which was felled in 2017, the project led to the creation of four string instruments that now form a quartet, giving new life to this spruce that was so dear to the community. The instruments, which resonate during concerts and performances, carry with them the memory and voice of the Avez del Prinzep.
An exhibition path at the Muse – Museum of Science in Trento tells the story of the project, offering a deeper understanding of its meaning and the importance of its creation.
How the ANIMA Project Was Born
The idea behind ANIMA was to make the Avez del Prinzep eternal by transforming its wood into a musical instrument that would endure over time, creating a bridge between the past and the future. Despite the violent fall of the tree, the project gave birth to a new beginning, symbolizing hope and continuity. ANIMA tells the story of a tree that has lived through centuries of history, with its wood preserving the traces of the forests, fairy tales, and legends of local tradition.
A unique aspect of this project is the use of the white spruce wood from the Avez del Prinzep, a choice that defied the traditional conventions of violin making, which usually uses red spruce for crafting instruments. Additionally, the four instruments were created without varnish, leaving them "white" as a symbol of purity and regeneration.
